About Scott

The Syme Family immigrated to the United States from Scotland and worked their way across the nation to settle in Western Idaho in the early 1900s. I was born and raised in Weiser. Growing up on our small ranch taught me a lot about hard work and the struggle to make a living.

After graduation from Weiser High, I worked my way through the College of Idaho in Caldwell, majoring in Business Management. After graduating, I got a job working for Boise Cascade Corporation in Utah. I met my wife in Ogden, where we married and had two children. Being a true "spud," I had to get back to Idaho. After five years away, we moved home.

While I was happy to be home in Idaho, I soon found myself unemployed with a family to support. To take care of my family I raised my right hand and said "I do solemnly swear to uphold the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic." I served a three year active duty tour in the United States Army. After twenty- five years of service, I am grateful for all of my experiences in the Army, the National Guard, and the Army Reserve, including a tour in Baghdad and a fact finding mission to Afghanistan. Having started out as a Private First Class, I am proud of my current rank, Colonel Scott A. Syme.

My wife and I have been blessed with four children, two more children were born in Boise after we returned from Utah. We owned and operated a child care center in Boise until 1991, when I could no longer resist the urge to return to a more rural lifestyle. We moved to 40 acres east of Wilder. Today, my wife and I work in the real estate business in Caldwell. I feel like my life has come full circle and we love where we live.

While I was deployed in Iraq, I realized that the leaders of our government lack a fundamental understanding of the conflict. I have the experience and insight that our Senate needs to make the right decisions for the direction of our country in this conflict.

I believe that there is something unique about being from Idaho. I want to fight for our Idaho values in the U.S. Senate as the next Senator from Idaho.
